Walks around Otterton - the parish boundary walk

Information and map Written guide
  1. Start at the green, Otterton, by the first boundary stone.
  2. Head westwards, out of the village towards Budleigh, cross both bridges and on your right, by the stream there is the second boundary stone, by the welcome sign.
  3. Head back over the first bridge, then take the footpath that follows the river downstream
  4. Continue along the path until you reach the aqueduct, then turn right, along the muddy track.  Follow the track round and it will join up with the road leading to South Farm.  Turn left out of the gate and the third boundary stone is almost immediately on your left.
  5. Continue along the road until you get to a 'carpark'.  Turn right, towards the farm shop and go through the small gate on your right that leads to a path that runs parallel to the river.  Continue along the path, it will pass a bird hide on the riverside of the hill and a concrete bat shelter and eventually you will reach a point with a view of the Otter estuary, Budleigh beach and the Lime Kiln carpark.
  6. Continue along the path.  On your left you will pass a roofless concrete shelter with an information board on the landing strip for aircraft doing target practice on sea targets during the war.  Eventually you will come out in a field which sometimes has cows in, by Ladram Bay.  Follow the coast and continue through the football pitch and you will come out on the slipway/beach access road.  Head straight across, past the cottages, and come out by a playground.  Follow the coast and enter the woods.
  7. Follow the path until you get to a big gate.  Go through the gate onto a bridleway and turn right.  Take the nth turning on the left and enter a field.
  8. Keep heading East and go through a big dip.  Exit at the corner of the field
  9. Continue east along the path with the fencing of the fields on your left and the coast on your right.
  10. When you reach the top of the hill turn left and towards the gate by the road.
  11. Turn left down the road, past the two car park entrances and after them the stone will be on the carpark side of the road
  12. Go back to the carpark
  13. More detail to be added...
  14. You will finally end up back at the green in Otterton.
